Bariloche by bike + Crossing the Andes
Date: 2nd. to 9th. March 2006

Distance: 450 km.
Places
:
Bariloche and surrounding areas. Pto. Montt (Chile). Lake Llanquihue. Volcáno Osorno. Hot springs. Puyehue Pass(1350m). Argentina: Villa la Angostura. Arrayan forest (Quetrihue Peninsula).
Phisical demand: biking days last aprox. 5 hrs and are split in two ,morning and afternoon . Normal speed is aprox. 17km/h. Those who might feel tired can use the support vehicle.
Itinerary: 2nd March: We meet in Bariloche: short ride (25 km), welcome dinner . Night at hostel 3rd March. Circuito Chico (65 km) Tour around Lakes Nahuel Huapi, Escondido and Moreno. Also we ride through Colonia Suiza and take alternative roads and paths 4th March. Crossing to Chile: we travel to - Puerto Montt – by bus and bike 75 km along Lake Llanquihue (paved road ) to Ensenada. Night at camping. 5th March. Up volcano Osorno: we ride 14 km upwards to the La Burbuja mountain hut. aferwards we descend “downhill”. Afternoon leisure time. Night at Ensenada. 6th March. Lake Puyehue (85 km, half of it gravel): in the afternoon , visiting the “aguas calientes” hot springs is optional. Camping. 7th March. Villa la Angostura (95 km, paved road): after 55 km we reach Cardenal Samore Pass(1350m). We ride past lakes Espejo and Correntoso. Night at camping. 8th March. Bariloche (90 km, paved road: In the morning we can visit the Arrayanes national park .24 km through paths to Península Quetrihue. Night at hostel . Farewell Asado (barbecue).

Equipement: Mountain bike or híbrid, with tyres for paved and gravel roads ,previous mechanical check up Helmet water bottles or water backpack (Camel). Spare inner tube. Sleeping bag and sleeping matress Tent, only for those who wish to sleep alone. Torch (head or hand held) spare batteries Sunglasses Personal medication Sunblock and lip balm No need for gear bags.

Food:
:Breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner, desserts and energy boosters will be provided during the ride The diet is based on carbohydrates and takes into consideration the needs of cyclists and their tastes. Red meat ,chicken and fish are available . Vegetarian food is provided for those who require it.
The snacks during the tour are crucial for an efficient ride . Energy bars , cereals and fruit are used as snacks
Water is most important although juice is an option during meals.
